The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation provides information on the state’s annual free hunt days taking place next week.
1. When are the free hunting days this year?
September 3-4, 2022. The first full weekend of September is traditionally a free hunting day in Oklahoma. On these two days, Oklahoma residents can participate in open hunting seasons without a state hunting license requirement.
2. What do free hunting days give Oklahomans?
These days off also provide a perfect opportunity for today’s hunters to bring together some people who have never been hunting and give them an experience that could open a door for them, while also helping to continue a time-honored American outdoor tradition.
3. What will you be able to hunt?
This year’s open hunting seasons on hunting-free days include pigeon, squirrel, coyote, raccoon, beaver, striped skunk, prairie dog, rail and moorhen. State rangers will not check state hunting licenses for residents on those days.
4. Will the rangers continue to enforce the rules?
Rangers will be on duty as usual to ensure compliance with bag limits, shooting hours, shotgun sockets, hunter education requirements, special area regulations, and other general regulations that are posted in the Oklahoma Game and Fish Regulations. A license can be purchased online at www.wildlifedepartment.com. A search tool is also available on the website to find in-person locations throughout the state.
