JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fish and Parks has released the season dates and bag limits for the upcoming season. MDWFP’s fiscal year begins July 1, 2022 and on Monday they released the dates for the 2022 to 2023 season during the ongoing frog and raccoon season.
Hunters across the state can catch one male antler in one day and three during the season. Just one hard-horned male may not meet the legal requirements of 10 inches inside spread or a 13-inch main beam on private land. The limit for deer on private land that do not have antlers, whether male or female, is five. In the National Forest it is one per day and a limit of five per season.
There’s a new season for deer hunters to get involved. A special velvet archery season will open on September 16 and close on September 18. Hunters must purchase a special permit that costs $10 and will be available after August 1, must be male, must be reported, and hunters must submit a sample for testing for chronic wasting disease.
