There is an ongoing investigation that has already filed charges against a man responsible for a stabbing in Neptune Township over the weekend.
While the investigation is still ongoing, the suspect in the Neptune Township stabbing has been arrested. according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey said Derrick Sims, 32, of Neptune Township, is being charged with first-degree murder, third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, using a knife, and obstruction. in the third grade after he allegedly stabbed a man to death following an altercation the two had on Sunday morning.
What investigators working on the case have learned so far is that Neptune Township Police responded to the area of Squirrel Road for a call about a stabbing around 5:44 a.m.
Once at the scene, police officers found an unresponsive man in the front yard of a residence and pronounced him dead upon arrival.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged altercation and stabbing, including where and how many times the victim was stabbed, have not yet been released by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation into the fatal stabbing is active and ongoing, Monmouth County Acting District Attorney Linskey said in a statement.
While the investigation continues, Simms is being held following his arrest at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township, pending a detention hearing.
