Today, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) released the latest private estimates of recreational red snapper landings through August 14, 2022. LA Creel, the Landings Data Collection Program near real-time data from LDWF, indicates that 589,561 pounds, or 73 percent, of Louisiana’s 2022 annual private recreational allocation of 809,315 pounds (reduced from 816,233 pounds for a 6,918-pound rebate) was harvested during snapper season 2022 red.
The private recreational season for red snapper began May 27 in state and federal waters. This season will run on weekends only (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, including Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day Mondays) with a daily bag limit of three fish per person and a daily bag limit of minimum size 16 inches total length until recreational landings approach or reach Louisiana allotment.

LDWF reminds charter captains and crew that they are not allowed to maintain a red snapper limit on a state or federal charter trip.
A Recreational Offshore Landing Permit (ROLP) required to own tuna, billfish, swordfish, amberjack, grouper, snapper, hind, cobia, wahoo, gray and gold triggerfish in Louisiana waters. This permission is free.
