The provincial Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture does not plan to alter the small game season in light of the current outbreak of deadly bird flu.
The department says they have seen no evidence to date that bird flu has affected local populations of grouse or ptarmigan, and the risk to human health remains low.
While no changes to the small game season are anticipated, the department says it continues to monitor the situation closely and will share information on precautions for hunting and handling birds where bird flu may be present.
In the meantime, information for all wild bird hunters is available on the federal government’s website.
