James “Sonny” E. Murphy – Seymour Tribune

James “Sonny” E. Murphy, of Seymour, IN, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Schneck Medical Center with his family by his side. Sonny was born on February 5, 1943. He was the son of Charles “Peck” and Verna (Keller) Murphy.

Sonny graduated from Crothersville High School in 1962. After graduation, he worked for Cummins Engine and eventually retired from there.

Even though he was paralyzed from his accident, he still had the knowledge and could tell him how to work on anything from laying power lines to working on farm equipment to helping family members cook. Sonny always enjoyed working on the farm, talking with friends, hunting rabbits and squirrels, listening to his beagle run, showing cattle with his son and daughter, and horseback riding. He especially loved spending time with family.

Sonny leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son, Byron D. Murphy of Seymour, IN, daughter, Jami N. (Brian) Weichman of Columbus, IN, granddaughter, Allison N. Weichman, grandson, Zachary J. Weichman, siblings, Kathryn Barnthouse of Seymour, IN, Lindia Brock of Seymour, IN, Richard Murphy of Seymour, IN, Robert (Shirley) Murphy of Columbus, IN, Roy “Arky” Murphy of Seymour, IN, Harold “Buddy” Murphy of Seymour, IN , a very good friend, Rick Hines, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Peck” and Verna Murphy, 1 brother, Frank Alan, brother-in-law, Jude Barnthouse, 2 sisters-in-law, Norma Murphy and Janet Murphy, 1 nephew Chuck Brock.

Byron and Jami would like to thank Schneck Home Health and Sonny’s brothers and sisters for the love and care they have given him over the last 20 years.

Funeral services will be held by Ron Looney at 11:00 am on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory Crothersville with interment to follow at Uniontown Cemetery. Family and friends can visit from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022, and from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service, all at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory Crothersville.
