HOLCOMB — James Ray “JR” Lee, Sr., 79, of Holcomb, passed away on Saturday, September 3, at his daughter’s residence in Philipp.
A service to celebrate his life was held at 3 pm on Monday, September 5, at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Turner and the Rev. Millard Caulder officiating. Immediately after the service, he was laid to rest in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.
He was born on August 11, 1943 in Mashulaville to Robert Fulton and Ira Ray Lee. JR had worked for several years at Randall-Textron and Rockwell in Grenada. Later in life, he worked as a truck driver and a farmer.
Mr. Lee was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Oxberry, where he was recently recognized as a deacon for 25 years. JR loved the outdoors and squirrel hunting with his beloved dog, Bud. He was a devoted family man and appreciated the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
While his death leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, we find comfort knowing that he had in his soul the cure for death, a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lynda Trusty Lee; daughter, Nessie Livingston (Keith) by Philipp; son, James Ray “Jaye” Lee, Jr. (Ginny) of Whiteland, Indiana; two sisters, Dorothy Pickle (Larry) from Grenada and Alice Faye Reeves (Henry) from Coffeeville; three siblings, Benny Lee (Edna) from Grenada, Lamar Lee (Barbara) from Water Valley, and Felbert Lee from Lithuania; four grandchildren, Krystle Carmical (James), Karlee Livingston (Brad), Kylie Lee (Justin), and Sydney Lee; and five great-grandchildren, Drake Carmical, Drayten Carmical, Bayler Rae Carmical, Kaysen Stevens, and Ava Hutchins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mary Opal Liddell and Frances Bennett Walley.
The pallbearers were Phillip Bishop, Drake Carmical, Josh Coffman, Sam Liddell, Kaysen Stevens, Elliott Watson, and Randy Welch.
Memorials may be directed to Bethel Baptist Church.
