Haywood Ray Nelson, age 80, died Friday, September 16, 2022, at ECU North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids.
Haywood was born in Halifax County, NC, on May 2, 1942, the son of the late Frank and Gladys Elizabeth Nowell Nelson.
Haywood loved the outdoors, especially raccoon hunting and squirrel hunting.
In addition to his parents, Haywood is preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy Nelson Miles; sisters, Earl Dean Allen and Elaine Hunt. She is also preceded in death by her grandson, TJ Nelson.
Survived by her children, Thad Nelson and a long time friend, Michelle Gray, and Tim Nelson and his wife, Patty, both of Roanoke Rapids; daughters, Tammy Nelson Strickland and husband, Ty, and Tina Nelson Lillibridge and husband, James, all also of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Aaron Strickland, Jaime Strickland Calderón, Karl Spillane, Kaci Spillane, Ashleigh Cole, Katelin Thacker, Timmy Nelson, Mary Beth Nelson, Shellie Nelson, Corey Lillibridge. 25 great-grandchildren also survive.
The family will have a gathering of friends on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 6-7:30 pm at 97 Miles Ln., Halifax, NC
