CMP Offers Free Youth Air Rifle Training Led by Former NCAA Athletes at Camp Perry

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is pleased to announce a new weekly marksmanship training opportunity for local Camp Perry youth: the Junior Rifle Club!

Marksmanship sports, such as rifle or air pistol, can be a positive option for those looking to engage their youth in a fun and rewarding activity. With airgun programs listed at many Division 1 colleges and service academies across the country in the form of NCAA clubs and teams, not to mention their standing as traditional events held at the Olympics, the shooting sports offer memorable adventures and limitless opportunities. Through our coaching mission, the CMP is happy to help those interested in the sport get started in the right direction.

The Junior Rifle Club at Camp Perry will be held every Tuesday and Thursday night from 5-8 pm at the Gary Anderson CMP Center of Competence, located in Camp Perry, Ohio. Designed for ages eight and up, the club’s purpose is to introduce shooting sports (specifically three-position air rifle) to local youth, with an emphasis on safety and education.

Each training session will be led by former NCAA Division 1 rifle athletes, including those currently facilitating CMP’s popular junior training camps during the summer months. Those involved in the Junior Rifle Club will learn the basics of the sport, strategies for competing successfully, and tips for becoming a well-rounded athlete.

There is no upfront cost associated with the program, and equipment will be provided by the CMP in the introductory weeks.

Training will take place inside the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center’s 80-point indoor electronic airgun shooting range. Outside the gates of the shooting range, the facility features authentic Olympic and other memorabilia from the career of celebrated American shooter, Gary Anderson, and includes a retail center for equipment and souvenir needs.
