Maryland Fall Turkey, Beginning of Small Game Hunting Seasons

Numerous opportunities to hunt throughout the state

the Maryland Department of Natural Resources remind hunters squirrel, Rabbit, fall turkey, and other seasons are underway or will premiere in the coming weeks. Hunters are also reminded that changes have been made to the grouse and quail seasons.

“This time of year, Maryland offers many other great opportunities to travel and make memories,” Wildlife and Heritage Service director Paul Pedito said. “Small game hunting is great for new hunters or anyone who enjoys a more active style of hunting.”

Squirrel season opened on September 3 with a catch limit of six per day. Squirrels are abundant throughout Maryland, especially where there are trees that produce masts, such as live oaks. Rabbit season begins November 5 with a bag limit of four per day. Both seasons are open until February 28.

For hunters in Garrett, Allegany, and Washington counties, the fall turkey hunting season It will open on October 29 and continue through November 6 with a bag limit of one turkey per hunter. Fall turkey hunters should know that wear (Western Maryland) and muzzleloader for deer (Region B) seasons are also open on October 29. All hunters must wear daylight fluorescent clothing to make themselves more visible to other hunters.

Bird hunters should note that changes have been made to both the ruffed grouse Y quail seasons to minimize the impact of hunting on declining populations.
