BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — Paul Wait, senior communications manager for Delta Waterfowl, received a pair of honors as a writer in the Great Lakes Outdoor Writers Association Craft Awards competition at its September conference in Branson, Missouri.
“Delta Waterfowl: How The Duck Hunters Organization Shaped Waterfowl Conservation in North America” won second place in the “Best of Book” category. The full account of Delta’s 110-year history speaks to the heart of the organization’s mission: encapsulating its roots in waterfowl research, the diversity of obstacles overcome, and the fascinating duck-filled horizon ahead.
“The Delta History Book is a hybrid between a coffee table book and Delta’s fascinating history in words,” said Wait. “All the great artwork and historical photos add great visual appeal to the book. I am delighted that my colleagues at AGLOW recognize me for my work, but really, that the leaders of Delta Waterfowl have trusted me to tell the story of The Duck Hunters Organization is a great honor in itself.
An online article by Wait titled “Crash Landings: ‘Twas Three Weeks Before Christmas…” took second place in AGLOW’s “Electronic Blog–Open” category. The cheery tale details a misty December surprise: a dazzling array of Christmas lights and snow geese bouncing off windows in literally a not-so-joyful way.
