Winchester, the largest manufacturer of small caliber ammunition for the US military, announced that the US military has awarded the company a $9 million additional cost contract to complete a manufacturing study in support of the production of tracer rounds for the 6.8mm Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program.
The work will be performed at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) in Independence, Missouri, the only government-owned and contractor-operated small-caliber ammunition production facility in the United States.
“Winchester is very excited to begin running this critical 6.8mm NGSW tracer munitions study at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant,” said Winchester President Brett Flaugher. “With the goal of enhancing Soldier capability, this groundbreaking work will use new tracer technology to create robust production processes and enable the transition from prototype tracer technology to field NGSW tracer ammunition. This Lake City-produced NGSW tracer munition will equip the future American Warfighter and help maintain the security and defense of our nation.”

About Gun Owners Beware
Gun owners worry. You worry about security. You care about preventing unauthorized access to firearms. You care about improving your community, helping those in need, and conserving wildlife and wild places for generations to come. It’s time for gun owners to tell their stories and show how they are making a difference. NSSF®, the trade association for the firearms industry, has established the Gun Owners Care campaign to unite gun owners and the firearms industry in this common cause.
