MADISON, Wisconsin. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today that the early catch and release season for trout in inland streams will begin on January 7, 2023 and run through May 5, 2023.
During this time, anglers are encouraged to fish for inland Wisconsin species of trout, but are reminded that all trout caught must be released immediately. When the general inside hook and line season begins on May 6, 2023, anglers will be able to fish these species following the catch limit rules and length requirements.
Anglers wishing to participate in this season will need to possess an inland trout stamp in addition to their 2022-2023 fishing license, which is valid through March 31, 2023. As of April 1, 2023, anglers will need to possess an fishing license 2023-2024. new inland trout license and seal.
