Law enforcement officers with the Louisiana Department of Fish and Wildlife cited a subject for alleged hunting violations in Lafayette Parish on September 20.
Agents cited Sam Boersma, 34, of Duson, for hunting squirrels during a closed season.
The Duson Police Department arrested Boersma for discharging a firearm within city limits. The Duson Police Department later contacted LDWF officers about Boersma also hunting squirrels.
LDWF Senior Agent Nelson Kennerson arrived on scene to find Boersma in possession of two freshly hunted squirrels. Fall squirrel season begins October 1. Agents seized the two squirrels.
Hunting squirrels during a closed season carries a fine of $250 to $500 and up to 90 days in jail. Boersma may also face civil restitution for the replacement value of the illegally taken squirrels totaling $40.
