Big Horn Armory (BHA) will donate $3,500 to the Wyoming Wildlife Federation (WWF) for November’s Pay it Forward program

The BHA donation will go towards WWF’s Hunters for the Hungry program to help educate hunters on how they can participate in the program and teach them how to donate meat to H4H for food insecure communities.

Big Horn Armory (BHA), manufacturers of large-caliber firearms, will donate $3,500 to the Wyoming Wildlife Federation (WWF) to help support their Hunters for the Hungry (H4H) program. This donation will help educate hunters on how they can participate in the program and teach them how to donate meat to H4H for Food Insecure Communities.

“Since partnering with WWF in 2020, we have been able to donate $8,500 which has been used to educate hunters and support donating meat to food insecure families within Wyoming. We are happy to be working with such a worthy cause that helps impact our fellow Wyoming citizens,” said Greg Buchel, Big Horn Armory President.

WWF’s H4H Program began in the fall of 2018. H4H looks to deepen its hunter giving with its amazing partner processors in Lander and Jackson, WY in the future. In the last four years, more than 14,100 meals have been donated through the program to food insecure communities.

“The continued support of Big Horn Armory and its clients is immense for WWF’s ability to communicate within the Hunters for the Hungry network. We have been able to reach more hunters in specific locations about this opportunity to donate game meat thanks to previous support from the Big Horn Armory,” said Joy Bannon, executive director of the Wyoming Wildlife Federation.

He went on to say, “We are excited to continue this program with those who make it possible on the ground, like our collaboration with Hole Food Rescue in Jackson, and excited to reach out to more hunters to educate them about this program. Sets the stage for better game meat donations in the future. Thank you for what you do for Wyoming.”

The H4H program was created to connect hunters and meat processors with food charities to provide high-quality nutrition to community members in need. This program is built on a base of conservation managers looking to give back to local communities by sharing the harvest and cultivating meaningful connections throughout Wyoming.

All meat is taken to a local processor in the state of Wyoming, where portions of donated game meat must be marked “wild game”, “not for sale” and marked with a donated sticker or seal. Mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk or elk are all potential carriers of CWD and must be tested before being donated. All antelope, bison, ibex, and bighorn sheep may be donated without testing. Email [email protected] to receive a CWD test kit.

All hunters must prepare their harvest in the field as they normally would and cool the carcass as soon as possible to prevent the meat from spoiling. Make sure you have all necessary license and tag information accompanying the animal at the time of processing. If the crop is a potential carrier of CWD, be sure to remove a lymph node sample and take it to a control station or regional Fish and Game office to submit for testing. Hunters can donate portions of their harvest after the entire animal has been processed by specifying how many pounds of meat they would like contributed at the time of pickup. The other option is to donate a whole animal for processing. Hunters are responsible for paying for processing. After processing, all portions of donated game meat must be marked “wild game,” “not for sale,” and “CD free,” if applicable. Local partners then distribute the donated meat to those in need.

AG Composites – More Than Your Average Custom Stock

In this world of mass production, where automated and computerized production helps reduce costs and increase the precision of the components being manufactured, consumers often end up with products that are just like everyone else’s. That’s not a bad thing when it comes to auto parts, but when it comes to your rifle stock, having something that’s finished by hand will give it a unique look that engenders a sense of pride of ownership not found in stock produced. mass.

A veteran-owned company that designs and manufactures advanced composite products, AG Composites combines the best of both worlds—advanced computer design and manufacturing with hand finishing—to produce the world’s finest composite rifle stocks, each with a unique look.

“AG Composites is a technology-based company that uses modern design software from Solidworks and AutoDesk to create computer-aided design (CAD) models of every material we make,” said Matt Tandy, owner of AG Composites. “At the same time, 90 percent of the work in every AG Composite stock is artisanal labor. We rely on the skills of our material finishers to give each material a unique look. For example, each paper is hand painted and while they should be consistent in pattern, I can tell which of our employees painted each paper as they all have their own unique style. The result is a unique look that our customers love.

“At AG Composites, our design engineers bring their CAD modeling experience from the aerospace industry to every material we design,” Tandy continued. “In addition, we use only the highest quality carbon fiber, epoxy and paint products to manufacture our premium line of composite rifle stocks. “Our proprietary manufacturing process is the ‘secret sauce’ behind our ability to produce best-in-class stock with lead times that are a fraction of our competitors. Consistency, efficiency, cost control and frequent quality checks are the main drivers of each step of our manufacturing process. Our goal is to provide our customers with exceptional value and superior performance and to be the best in the business.”

PULL OUT “THE HAMMER”

A WHOLE NEW ERA OF BRAIDED LINE HAS JUST ARRIVED!

“Affordable Innovation” has always been KastKing’s rallying cry. Now, enter Hammer Braid, a truly new take on braided fishing line.

Hammer Braid is colorfast, has almost zero stretch, higher knot strength, and better abrasion resistance than other brands on the market. It’s everything you want in a premium, accurate braided line for any angling condition.

How is it different? It is what happens to the fibers prior to the braiding process that sets Hammer Braid apart. Individual fibers are treated using a proprietary coating process (EPC) that provides multiple benefits.

“We pre-color the fibers before braiding, which gives us a much more color resistant product,” says Rex Nelson, KastKing product development specialist. “Most companies dye the product as a post-braid treatment, but we have found that the color actually sets better within individual fibers when treated prior to braiding and allows the color to set more permanently.” The end result is a braid that holds its color longer than competitive braids.

Hammer Braid’s individual fibers are stretched before they are braided, which Nelson says realigns the fibers’ molecular structure, making them stronger.

“The more you stretch the fibers, the stronger they get,” says Nelson. “When you bring those fibers together, you end up with better overall straight pull strength with Hammer Braid.”

“Braids are measured by the number of times the fibers cross each other in an inch of material,” says Nelson. “Most braids on the market average 18 to 20 crosses per inch, but the Hammer Braid has 24, so we have a considerably tighter weave. This tighter braid makes it smoother, more compact, and gives it a rounder profile.

In practical application, the Hammer Braid is a power angler’s dream, perfectly defining the fishing style of MLF Pro Tour veteran Cliff Crochet. The Louisiana native cut his teeth fishing the Atchafalaya Basin; therefore, he is no stranger to manhandling stubborn bass from extremely thick deck. He has found better strength in Hammer Braid knots, particularly at the heavier test weights of 65 lbs. and greater when drilling through thick mats of vegetation.

“I would use a chain when piercing doilies if I could get away with it because I want the strongest possible line in that situation,” says Crochet. “The problem I’ve had with heavy braids in the past is that they get too thick to hold a good knot consistently. Because the Hammer Braid has a thinner diameter, it holds the knot very well.”

Crochet “downsizes” to a 50-pound test braid when fishing jigs, buzzbaits, and lipless lures around cover, keeping in mind that Hammer Braid’s smooth texture allows for long, quiet casts.

“I really like the feel of the Hammer Braid in my hands,” she says. “It’s not as slippery as some of the coated braids on the market, but it’s not too thick going through the rod guides either. To me, it just has a good texture and feel.”

Minneapolis Area Take Kids Ice Fishing Event Sees Record Turnout

Minneapolis unions hosted the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance ice fishing event on East Rush Lake on Saturday

Spring Hill, Tennessee.—Warm winter weather drew more than 100 youth and their families to East Rush Lake in Rush City, Minnesota, for the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA) annual Take Kids Ice Fishing Day in the Minneapolis area on Saturday March 4.

Hosted by the Minneapolis Building and Construction Trades Council (BCTC), International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC) Local 9, and a coalition of additional labor unions and other supporters, the free event aimed to introduce the next generation of fishermen and conservationists to the pleasures of ice fishing.

This girl was proud to catch her first fish at the Minneapolis area Take Kids Ice Fishing event.

“It was a great day on the lake, by far the best event we’ve ever had,” said Dave Morin, IUEC Local 9 officer and event organizer. “Every other year, we’ve had freezing rain, minus digits, six inches of snow, all but optimal conditions. This year we had beautiful weather, the kids caught a lot of fish, everyone won a prize, and there were tons of smiles.”

Morin’s favorite part of the event was watching a girl catch her first fish. She “she Was her showing everyone the hanger, kissing it and telling everyone that she wanted to put it on the wall. She was so proud,” she said.

Each young angler received a free fishing rod and reel to continue fishing in the future. Fifteen multi-trade union volunteers from the Minneapolis BCTC helped the boys get comfortable with their new equipment and helped set lines, replace hooks, drill new holes and have fun.

Brady Dougherty attended the event with his father, a member of Painters Local 386, and they had a wonderful time.

“My family and I have always had a passion for the outdoors, especially fishing, and being able to share that with young children at the event was amazing,” said IUEC Local 9 member and volunteer Isaac Stoe. Outdoors is becoming secondary for a lot of people, so the more we can get young people to enjoy Minnesota’s outdoor resources, the better.”

Between the optimal weather conditions and the good location of the fishing holes on the underwater structure, the children caught many fish. Stoe especially enjoyed teaching the participants how to use electronics.

“Most of the kids are used to wearing a bobber, so being able to see what was going on under the ice was a really cool experience for them and a very special one for me,” Stoe said.

Event organizer Dave Morin and his son John share a moment in an ice shelter.

The event in the Minneapolis area was part of a series of Take Kids Fishing Day community events organized through the US Work Boots on the Ground (WBG) conservation program. WBG organizes union volunteers to complete projects that improve public access to the outdoors, conserve wildlife habitat, restore America’s parks, and educate and engage youth in the outdoors.

Thanks to the support of local unions, USA, Flickabirds Resort, Thorne Bros Custom Rod and Tackle, Vados Bait & Tackle, Joe’s Sporting Goods, and Rush Lake Improvement Association, the event was completely free to attendees and each child won a prize. in the raffles that take place during lunch.

Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA): USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to unions whose members hunt, fish, shoot, and volunteer their skills for conservation. The Pursuit series is packed with performance and comfort for the Turkey season.

The Nomad Pursuit series paves the way for an innovative line of turkey hunting clothing that provides hunters with comfort and concealment on every hunt. From top to bottom, the Pursuit series has hunters decked out in state-of-the-art technology. The Pursuit Series features everything from sun-protective and stain-resistant fabrics to styles that wear comfortably in any temperature.

Nomad’s Pursuit short-sleeve and long-sleeve designs were developed with spring days in mind, offering hunters protection from harmful UV rays. Both shirt designs are essential pieces of a turkey hunter’s wardrobe, blocking both UVA and UVB rays and providing moisture-wicking fabric that wicks sweat away from the skin. Tops are great layering tools on chilly mornings, but when the sun and temperatures rise during a hunt, they can also be worn alone. The antimicrobial properties of the designs make these styles workhorses for hunters, as the fabric prevents the spread of microorganisms during harvest. This feature will be useful for everything from packing a long beard to processing the meat obtained.

Like previous Pursuit tops, the Nomad Pursuit 1/4 Zip is another long-sleeve option that provides hunters with +UPF 30 SPF that blocks harmful sun rays. The 1/4 zip design allows hunters to unzip the top of the garment when they need additional cooling or airflow. Hunters will appreciate the antimicrobial and stain resistant properties of the garment, as they will be able to enjoy it on many future hunts. Constructed from a synthetic material that keeps sweat off the skin, hunters will stay dry and cool when chasing down a gobbler.

The Pursuit Pants are a must have in every turkey hunter’s wardrobe this season. The lightweight, 4-way stretch design makes chasing down those gobblers easy as hunters will have full range of motion. At the same time, the always adjustable band and never pop button keep the pants snug and secure during the hunt. Turkey hunters often face the challenge of getting turkeys to an intended destination, and sometimes this comes with a lot of movement. All of the above features keep the pant in place during an action-packed hunt. Articulated knees and an anatomical shape provide the best performance and fit in a single pair of pants.

The Pursuit Series is available in Mossy Oak Shadow, Mossy Oak Bottomland®, and Realtree Timber® sheets.
