NWTF commends expanded efforts to address the national wildfire crisis

EDGEFIELD, SC — As part of its 10-year wildfire crisis strategy, the USDA Forest Service announced increased efforts to reduce catastrophic wildfires across the Western US. The 11 new landscapes in seven states: Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming: Will directly benefit at-risk communities and critical infrastructure, ultimately reinforcing NWTF’s collaborative efforts with the agency for greater resource impact natives of the nation.

Today’s announcement in Arizona’s Tonto National Forest complements the agency’s 10 landscape projects unveiled in 2021. Total efforts to address catastrophic wildfires will now encompass nearly 45 million acres in 134 high-risk fire basins in western the US This work will mitigate risk to approximately 200 communities within these landscapes.

“Our greatest opportunity to step in and address this emergency is now,” Forest Service Chief Randy Moore said. “Doing this work in the right place, at the right time, and at the right scale, combined with the use of emergency authorities, will expedite our planning, consultation, contracting, contracting, and project work to reduce wildfire risk and improve the health and resilience of forests. Collaboration with tribes, communities, and partners will continue to be a priority, and we will continue to use the best available science in doing this important work.”

These newly expanded efforts come one year after the 10-year wildfire crisis strategy was first announced. Since the strategy’s launch a year ago, the Forest Service and its partners have used the best available science and data to identify the highest-risk landscapes for projects. The agency found that about 80% of wildfire risk to communities is concentrated in less than 10% of fire basins. These targeted investments focus on the highest-risk basins, where projects are ready to start or expand.

“Just one year after the wildfire crisis strategy began in our western landscapes, the Forest Service is already increasing its efforts to ensure appropriate action is taken in a timely manner,” said NWTF Co-Executive Director Kurt Dyroff. . “We stand ready to lend our support through our shared-management conservation model.”

With more than 50 active stewardship agreements and about 150 completed, the Forest Service is the NWTF’s strongest partner, helping national forests in every Forest Service region of the country to enhance the nation’s natural resources. In addition, the NWTF and the USDA Forest Service recently signed a 20-year national master management agreement, the first of its kind, that fits into the Wildland Fire Crisis Strategy.

The partnership between the NWTF and the Forest Service works exceptionally well because the work done to benefit the habitat of the wild turkey and other wildlife has considerable and far-reaching benefits for overall forest health, water supplies, biodiversity, and the ecological health.

“Our partnership with the Forest Service benefits turkeys and turkey hunters, but so much more,” Dyroff said. “Our delivery of conserving our nation’s forests and grasslands impacts our critically important Four Shared Values, which benefit all Americans. We look forward to continuing our efforts with the Forest Service and addressing our nation’s most pressing conservation challenges.”

NWTF leadership discusses conservation and politics at SHOT

EDGEFIELD, SC — During the American Wildlife Conservation Partners press conference hosted at the National Shooting Sports Foundation’s annual SHOT Show, NWTF Co-Executive Director Jason Burckhalter praised the AWCP and spoke about the NWTF’s involvement advocating for legislation that benefits America’s natural resources and athletes. women.

Burckhalter said it takes all of our organizations working together to ensure that our future generations experience our natural resources as we do today. Since its founding, he continued, the AWCP has profoundly affected America’s wildlife and wild places.

The AWCP is a consortium of 50 organizations representing the interests of millions of professional hunters, conservationists, and managers of America’s wildlife and natural resources.

Burckhalter noted the significant successes of the AWCP since the 117the Congress, including the unprecedented Bipartisan Infrastructure Act that resulted in the NWTF signing a $50 million 20-year National Master Stewardship Agreement with USDA Forest Serviceme.

He also praised the passage of the MAPLand Act and the REPLANT Act, but said much remains to be accomplished, namely enacting the American Wildlife Recovery Act and establishing a new law that prevents special interest groups from inhibit NWTF conservation delivery on public lands nationally.

Despite a tremendous multi-year collaborative effort by the NWTF, AWCP partners, and the broader sports and conservation community, RAWA’s passage into law never came to fruition, Burckhalter noted.

RAWA would amend the Pittman-Robertson Act to direct a guaranteed allocation of nearly $1.4 billion to states and tribes to restore vulnerable species.

RAWA would supplement existing Pittman-Robertson funding, not replace it, allowing excise tax dollars on firearms, ammunition and archery equipment to remain focused on game conservation, recruitment and access hunters, as well as the development of shooting ranges. In 2021, these taxes generated $1.1 billion for the state’s conservation efforts, maintaining the hunting and hunting community’s status as America’s most hardcore conservation heroes.

NWTF and AWCP partners are also actively working with members of Congress on legislation that would make it more difficult for groups opposed to forest management to misuse the Endangered Species Act, the National Protection Act Environment, the Equal Access to Justice Law and federal law. court system to prevent major forest and range work from being done on federal lands.

The prospective bill, sponsored by Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), and RAWA are priorities for the NWTF and AWCP as 118the Congress speeds up.

Early involvement of the NWTF and AWCP in planning for the 2023 Farm Bill was also addressed.

The farm bill is one of the largest conservation bills supporting work on federal public lands, as well as voluntary incentive programs for family and private work lands. Through numerous coalitions, the sport conservation community is working to develop priorities for the bill’s conservation and forestry titles to ensure that authorities and funding are available to continue to manage habitat on lands across all boundaries. proprietary.

Burkhalter noted that what we do on our public and private lands over the next decade will be critical to building resiliency in our nation’s forests and other upland ecosystems, ensuring clean water for our communities, providing access for hunters and other enthusiasts of the outdoors, while improving wildlife habitat.

So keep reading to find out more and take your hunting to the next level.

Predator hunting is a demanding and exciting sport that requires a combination of skills and knowledge. One of the most critical skills for any hunter is handling and shooting a firearm with precision. Mastering firearms techniques is essential to make accurate shots and kill your prey.

This article will explore the key components of mastery of firearms techniques for successful predator hunting. From understanding your gun to proper sight alignment and trigger control, we’ll provide tips and techniques to help hunters improve their skills and increase their chances of success. If you want to learn more about everything you need to know about predator hunting, you can check out A Comprehensive Guide to Everything You Need for Tactical Predator Hunting to get started.

Whether you are an experienced hunter or just starting out, mastering your firearm techniques is crucial to successful predator hunting.

Becoming familiar with your firearm is essential to mastering the techniques necessary for successful hunting of predators. Knowing the capabilities, limitations, and proper handling of your gun will allow you to make accurate shots and quickly adapt to any hunting situation.

Different types of firearms have other uses in hunting predators. For example:

  • Rifles are versatile and accurate weapons that can be used for long-range shooting. They are suitable for hunting predators such as coyotes, foxes, and bobcats.
  • Shotguns are best suited for fast, short-range predators like raccoons and skunks.
  • Pistols are normally used for close range shooting; they are suitable for hunting active predators in the early morning or at dusk and in heavily wooded areas where a rifle would be unwieldy.

When choosing a weapon for predator hunting, it is essential to take into account the following factors:

  • Type of predator you will hunt
  • Land
  • Type of hunting you plan to do

Here are some tips to help you choose the right gun for the job:

  • Try different firearms in a shooting range.
  • Consult with experienced hunters or gun experts.
  • Read articles and reviews on different types of firearms and their uses.

For more information on selecting rifles for big game hunting, you can refer to the Selecting Rifles for Big Game Game article for a more comprehensive review.

Understanding your weapon is crucial to mastering firearms techniques for a successful predator hunt. By familiarizing yourself with the different types of firearms and their uses and choosing the right weapon for the job, you’ll be able to take accurate shots and adapt to any hunting situation.

Proper sight alignment and trigger control are critical components in mastering firearm techniques for successful predator hunting. They are essential for making accurate shots and taking down your prey.

Sight alignment refers to the alignment of your weapon’s front and rear sights with the target. Proper alignment ensures that the bullet will hit the target it is aimed at.

Trigger control refers to the ability to pull the trigger smoothly without disturbing the alignment of the sights. A smooth trigger pull allows for a surprise break and helps minimize sight movement during shooting.

Here are some tips for achieving good sight alignment and trigger control:

  • Focus on the front view
  • Align front and rear sights
  • Squeeze trigger smoothly and evenly
  • Practice dry shooting and real shooting

The different types of sights include:

  • iron sights
  • optical sights
  • red dot sights
  • holographic sights

Iron sights are the traditional type of sight; They are simple and easy to use, but require more concentration and practice to master.

Optical sights, like scopes, enlarge the target and make aiming easier. They are popular for long-range shooting, but can be heavy and require more maintenance.

Red dot sights and holographic sights are similar to optical sights, but they project a red dot or holographic image onto the target, making aiming easier. They are popular for close range shooting and fast moving targets.

Proper sight alignment and trigger control are crucial for accurate shots and killing your prey. By mastering these skills and understanding the different types of sights, hunters can improve their chances of success hunting predators.

Position and movement are crucial to mastering firearm techniques for successful predator hunting. They can greatly affect your accuracy and ability to take down your prey.

Your position and movement can affect your accuracy in several ways:

  • A stable shooting position will help you stabilize the weapon and make accurate shots.
  • Your movement can cause the weapon to move and affect the alignment of the sights.
  • Your movement can alert the prey and cause it to flee.

Here are some tips for finding a stable shooting position:

  • Use a solid rest or support, such as a tree, rock, or shooting sticks.
  • Keep your body as still as possible.
  • Try different positions to find the one that best suits your needs.

Moving silently and stealthily in the field is crucial to a successful hunt for predators. Here are some tips for moving quietly and stealthily:

  • move slowly and deliberately
  • Avoid making noise by stepping on dry leaves or twigs
  • Wear clothes and shoes that help you move calmly
  • Use cover and concealment to move undetected.

Position and movement are important factors in mastering firearm techniques for successful hunting of predators. By finding a stable shooting position and moving quietly and stealthily, hunters can improve their accuracy and increase their chances of success.

Practice and training are essential to mastering firearms techniques for successful predator hunting. Regular exercise and training will help you become more familiar with your gun, improve accuracy, and adapt to different hunting situations.

Here are some tips for incorporating practice and training into your routine:

  • Schedule regular practice sessions at a shooting range
  • Incorporate live fire training into your practice routine
  • Try different types of targets and shooting scenarios.
