Barnett’s Hyper Raptor crossbow offers devastating performance at a disruptive price

New for 2023, the Hyper Raptor leads the way with premium features, performance-driven innovation, and industry-leading technology to produce the smoothest, fastest, and easiest shooting experience on the market. Best of all, Barnett® offers all of this at an incredible retail price!

At the heart of every Barnett crossbow is quality and reliability. As the leading pioneer of the modern crossbow movement, Barnett’s unwavering focus on precision, safety and performance has earned the trust of hunters from all walks of life and from all corners of the world. With over 60 years of experience and examining every aspect of every crossbow, Barnett is proud to be the world’s #1 crossbow manufacturer.

The Hyper Raptor excels in all aspects of performance-inspired design and technology. With a lightweight composite body and measuring just over seven inches from axis to axis when cocked, the crossbow provides excellent maneuverability in tight quarters hunting applications. Its pivoting limb pockets put less weight on the front of the crossbow while making a more durable shooting platform with reduced recoil and vibration. With its compact, energy-efficient design, the Hyper Raptor sends small-diameter HyperFlite™ arrows downward with incredible speed – up to 410 feet per second and 142 foot-pounds. of energy for maximum bone-crushing penetration.

Like all Hyper™ Series crossbows, the Hyper Raptor is paired with Barnett’s exclusive and patent-pending 20-inch .204 diameter HyperFlite arrows. 21% increased FOC (Front of Center) of the arrow and a 61% higher Ballistic Coefficient reduce wind drift, creating a deadly combination of blistering speed, downrange accuracy, and deeper penetration. With a straightness tolerance of +/- 0.001 in., HyperFlite shafts provide 25% deeper penetration than the competition.

The Hyper Raptor is not only exceptionally fast, but also proves to be highly accurate. Barnett’s new Halo system eliminates cable crossover and cam droop to create a perfectly balanced string path for superior precision. Plus, arrows stay secure with Barnett’s Soft Lok™ floating bristle arrow retention system and the CNC-machined aluminum flight track provides shot-after-shot consistency.

The Hyper Raptor uses a metal injection molded trigger and TriggerTech™ frictionless release technology (a $200 value). The TriggerTech trigger features a crisp, reliable 3-pound pull for consistent shots and improved accuracy. This is another example of how Barnett leads the industry in innovation and value. An Anti-Dry Fire (ADF) system and a nock sensor are added to ensure the crossbow is loaded correctly. Plus, new Rope Hold Roller Ball technology keeps the RCD rope in place while connecting the hooks to the rope for more consistent cocking. The Hyper Raptor is also offered in a pre-installed CCD format to ensure that all hunters can use this innovative crossbow however they prefer.

Comfort and customization add the finishing touches to the Hyper Raptor. Hunter-friendly ergonomics are enhanced by multiple features, such as finger safety reminders on the pass-through forend with Verti-Grip palm rest. An adjustable draw-length stock and padded, micro-adjustable buttrest ensure perfect draw length and proper scope-to-eye alignment. Pre-installed string suppressors reduce recoil, vibration, and noise while shooting.

Barnett includes even more value to complete the Hyper Raptor package. The crossbow comes equipped with a premium 4×36 illuminated multi-reticle sight with flip-up caps. The scope offers precise target acquisition in a wide range of ambient light conditions, from twilight to noon. The scope is adjustable so that the scope reticles are calibrated at exact distances based on arrow speed.

The complete package includes a premium side-mount quiver, three 20-inch HyperFlite arrows with field tips, 4×36 illuminated riflescope with multiple reticles, integrated sled-style string cocking device, and lubricating wax. Best of all, the Hyper Raptor’s single-bolt assembly comes nearly assembled and virtually ready to hunt right out of the box.

Chêne Launches Youth Collection, Wader Exchange Program

Chêne Gear, maker of performance waterfowl hunting apparel, is launching a new youth clothing collection and a unique program that allows kids to swap out their boots as they grow. This program will help give kids a better experience in the woods and help parents with the costs of kids outgrowing their gear.

Chêne’s founders started the company to create high-quality, durable hunting gear they always dreamed of owning but never came to market, and that goal also inspired the new youth collection, which includes youth versions of the brand’s flagship waders, the Over-and-Under Jacket, Hydro-Lok Shell, and Sherpa Fleece Wader Pants.

“It’s ironic that we inevitably leave kids with lower-quality, second-hand equipment, when they really need higher-functioning, higher-performing equipment. They are the ones we want to have the best experience possible so they come back again and again, bring their friends and talk about it at school,” said Field Norris, co-founder of Chêne Gear and father of young hunters. “We saw this as a challenge from day one and set out to fix it.”

Under the youth wader exchange program, the starter pair of waders can be purchased for $800. As kids get older, their boots can be traded in for a bigger, like-new pair for $125. Waders must be in good condition and approved by Chên in order to be exchanged. If a child is out of youth sizes, she can make an additional exchange for an adult size. Children graduate from the program when they turn 15 years old.

“We are introducing a new model for mentors to take kids into the woods and help parents with the costs of outfitting kids with quality hunting gear,” Norris said. “Kids are so impressionable. They want to be whoever you are, and they want to wear what daddy wears and what grandpa wears. That’s what this show is about.”

Chêne’s new youth collection is a complete system of waterfowl hunting essentials that will prepare boys for whatever conditions they face in the woods, including:

  • Chêne Gear Youth Wader: A no-zip wader constructed from the same waterproof-breathable nylon fabric as Chêne’s flagship wader. Available in three sizes: 6-8 years (boot size 4), 9-11 years (boot size 5) and 12-14 years (shoe size 6)
  • Overlay jacket: A jacket built for the cold, lined with sherpa fleece for an ideal blend of warmth and breathability. Available in Jr., XXS and XS.
  • Hydro-Lok casing: Constructed with breathable and waterproof 3-layer nylon to provide reliable protection against heavy and sustained rain showers. Available in Jr., XXS and XS.
  • Sherpa Fleece Wader: Designed to be worn under wellington boots for added comfort and warmth, thanks to a 300-gram sherpa fleece lining and 4-way stretch polyester construction. Available in Jr., XXS, XS.

All products will be available exclusively at CheneGear.com starting July 20 at 10am CST.

Land Tawney, Longtime BHA President and CEO, Announces His Departure

Under Tawney’s leadership, BHA grew from a small volunteer-based organization to America’s leader in advocating public lands for hunters/fishers; The BHA board will lead the search committee

MISSOULA, Mont. – Today, after 10 years of dedicated service to building an organization that has become the continent’s leading voice for hunters and anglers and public lands and waters, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers President and CEO Land Tawney announced his departure from the BHA, effective at the end of July.

Over the course of Tawney’s tenure, the BHA leapt from a small, volunteer-based, western-focused organization with less than a thousand members to an influential powerhouse across North America with chapters in 48 states, Washington, D.C., two Canadian provinces, and one Canadian territory. With an engaged community of more than half a million members, supporters and partners and more than 30 employees, the BHA is impacting policy from the local to the federal level, playing an increasing role in stewarding North America’s public lands and waters, winning conservation and access fights, and creating a “big tent” gathering place for outdoor men and women of all persuasions.

“My time at BHA has been the most rewarding of my conservation career,” Tawney said. “Many people feel their voice doesn’t count and feel disenfranchised from decisions that affect our public lands, waters, and wildlife. Together, the dedicated BHA volunteers, members and staff have changed that idea. Margaret Mead’s quote could not ring more true: ‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful and committed citizens can change the world; in fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.’”

Notable political victories achieved by the BHA under Tawney’s watch include permanent reauthorization and full funding of the federal Soil and Water Conservation Fund; successfully banning drones for hunting and scouting in much of North America; defeat a variety of ill-conceived attempts to sell, transfer, or privatize public land and water (including legislation introduced, and then swiftly withdrawn, by then-Congressman Jason Chaffetz); guarantee the long-term conservation of the wild nature of the border waters; and, most recently, advocating for public access through the corner intersection in Wyoming.

Under Tawney’s leadership, BHA established its Armed Forces Initiative, Chartered Club and Hunting for Sustainability programs. BHA maintains a membership that is young (63% of BHA members are 45 or younger) and politically diverse, split almost evenly between Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.

“Land Tawney is the most charismatic, inspiring and visionary leader I have ever worked with,” said Ted Koch, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the BHA of North America. “He has been the face and heartbeat of the BHA, growing the organization and making it effective in ways perhaps no one else could. We look forward to increasing the BHA’s role in the game and fish conservation community in the future and supporting Land as he leads and impacts conservation in North America in new ways.”

“The people, the people, the people!” Tawney emphasized. “I am in awe of the time, talent and treasure that individual volunteers generously give to BHA. We are warriors in the field of conservation, and I would bank on our great staff each and every time. I am proud of what we have all accomplished, together.

“I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings,” Tawney concluded. “It has been a great journey. I am a lifetime member of the BHA. My children are lifetime members. We will continue to stand up for wild things and wild places that cannot speak for themselves. Hope to see you all on the trail or in the water soon. Forward and up.”

The North American BHA board of directors will soon begin the search for Tawney’s replacement. During this interim period, BHA Vice President of Policy and Government Relations John Gale and Vice President of Operations Frankie McBurney Olson will serve as interim Co-CEOs to guide the organization.

New Laser Shooting Simulators Offer Endless Fun Now Available On CMP For National Matches

If you’ve always wanted to try something outside of your own discipline without the hassle of buying or borrowing new equipment or are just looking for something fun to do between games, come check out CMP’s new laser shooting simulators. The simulators are housed in the Gary Anderson CMP Competence Center and is the perfect place to cool off after a hot game in the blazing sun.

The simulators have two projection screens and many options for firearms, including M4 rifles, M17 pistols, shotguns, and a sniper weapon system. The simulators have capabilities for civil and military qualifications and police training, with a mobile system that can be taken on the road to competitions and matches. The permanent setup in CMP operates with the game function and costs $5 to run three simulations.

Users of a simulator check their zeroing before the game starts.

The gun acts as the controller for the game, so you can aim at the screen to choose the course and calibrate the firearm’s sights before entering the simulated course. There are different levels of difficulty depending on the abilities of each person. A CMP staff member will be present to assist with the operation of the game.

“So far it has been a great success,” said Brad Donoho, Smallbore manager at CMP. We have used it during the CMP Regional Air Rifle Championships as well as the Camp Perry Open and the JROTC Championship. We had a packed room and people were cheering and even booing their peers at times,” he added.

Various firearm options are available to use with the simulator.

Some competitors and their families show up for a round, and others are in and out all day, playing match after match. Ashton Asbell was one person who couldn’t get enough. When asked how many games he played, he said he lost count! Asbell was attending the 3P Air Rifle Championship with his team, the Patriots Shooting Club, and said, “It reminds me of home in Virginia, because I can go out there and shoot all kinds of different things.” When asked if he would recommend it to others to try, he smiled and gave a resounding “Absolutely.”

Games are a great way to introduce competitors to various shooting sports disciplines.

The future of the simulator is in line with the future of youth shooting sports. It is a good tool to show junior competitors some of the other things they can do outside of their own discipline within shooting sports. Donoho said of the junior competitors, “They get to try high-powered pistols, service pistols, action pistols, and shotguns. They can play around with this and find out what they enjoy and maybe they could continue shooting sports after their high school career.”

Be sure to freshen up and head over to the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center, open daily during national matches, to try out the simulator.

Of course, the simulator is for everyone, not just for the young. So come and try it and have fun!

CMP simulators are available anytime at the Gary Anderson CMP Competence Center when open and open to the public. View the daily schedule at https://thecmp.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2023-NM-Air-Gun-Event-Schedule.pdf.

Don’t forget that national air pistol events are also opportunities to have fun and compete during national games. Visit https://thecmp.org/cmp-matches/national-matches-air-gun-events/ for more details.

The Civilian Marksmanship Program is a federally chartered 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
