CMP Hosts the Monthly March Archery Game at Talladega Marksmanship Park

TALLADEGA, Ala. – On March 11 and 12, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) hosted its second 3D archery game of the year at Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama. A total of 10 people participated in the event.

Kenneth Bowes hit a score of 212 to lead the Men’s Known 40 event, while Devyn Chapman hit 196 to move past first place in the Young Adult Open Female category. Other tournament categories included the Men’s Know 40, Men’s Pin 30, Men’s Pin 40, and the Young Adult Men’s Open, each featuring a single competitor at Talladega in March.

Talladega’s 3D Archery Tournaments are open to the public, and both new and experienced are welcome to compete. Competitions are designed for hunters, archery enthusiasts, or anyone else who just loves to use a bow and arrow.

Tournaments follow official ASA (Archery Shooters Association) rules and are shot against professional Delta McKenzie targets. Although the events are held over two days, individuals can choose one day to complete their 20 total score goals. The entrance fee is $7.50 for youth (ages 6-17) and $15 for adults (ages 18 and up).

The next Talladega Monthly Archery Tournament will take place on April 22 and 23. Other upcoming monthly 3D Archery tournaments at Talladega in 2023 include: June 24 and 25, August 19 and 20, September 16 and 17, and October 7 and 8.

ASA State points feed into the Alabama ASA State Shooter of the Year program. Designated ASA Tournaments are also scheduled at Talladega for May 20-21 and July 15-16.

The 3D Archery Range at Talladega Marksmanship Park is located on the shotgun side of the grounds and is equipped with 20 lanes of life-size 3D targets, specially painted to resemble live animals in their natural habitat. Delta-McKenzie foam targets are designed to fit along hidden paths among the trees on the Talladega grounds and can be placed from 15 to 50 yards. The archery area also contains a 30 × 60-yard driving range.

Results from the monthly 3D Tournament for March and more information about Talladega archery events can be found on the CMP website at https://thecmp.org/archery/. Questions about 3D Archery matches can be directed to William Chapman, Talladega Archery/Shotgun Supervisor, at 256-474-4408 ext. 421 or [email protected].

About the CMP Talladega Shooting Range:

Aptly named “The Home of Marksmanship,” the park is a worthy destination for firearms supporters and visitors seeking opportunities to practice, compete, and mindfully learn. Featuring CMP electronic targets and scoring monitors that can only be found at the 500-acre facility, the park regularly hosts rifle, pistol, shotgun, and archery events throughout the year. CMP’s Unknown Distance Range at Talladega also allows guests to practice their skills on the range of more than 100 steel targets, up to 625 yards, and provides even more shooting fun in the park.

The public is welcome daily to try out their firearms or just take a tour of the grounds. Out of the line of fire, the Clubhouse features a fully stocked Pro Shop featuring an exclusive collection of CMP rifles, ammunition, marksmanship and memorabilia that is always open during park hours.
