DEC to Host St. Lawrence County Junior Waterfowl and Pheasant Hunt –

On August 24, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced that the annual St. Lawrence County Juvenile Hunt will take place in September, providing an exciting opportunity for young hunters learn from expert environmental conservation (ECO) police officers. The program is free for participants.

Region 6 ECOs are partnering with the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) Massena Chapter and DEC Wildlife staff at the Wilson Hill Wildlife Management Area to offer 12-year-old young hunters to 15 years the opportunity to hunt waterfowl and pheasants. The hunt is a three-day event that begins with a classroom portion at the Massena Rod and Gun Club on Wednesday, September 14, followed by two consecutive Saturdays for the hunt.

educational day: Wednesday, September 14, at 5 pm

Hunting days: Saturday, September 17, for waterfowl; Saturday, September 24, for pheasant.

Interested young hunters must possess a New York State small game hunting license and register with the Harvest Information Program (HIP). The event is free to participants and equipment will be provided if needed. The event is organized by the Massena Rod and Gun Club and sponsored by the New York Conservation Officers Association, NWTF and the St. Lawrence County Sports Federation.
