MADISON, Wisconsin. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is now accepting applications for this year’s round of funding for the Game Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation (R3) grant program. Funds from the grant program are used to help increase the number of hunters in Wisconsin and expand hunter activities.
The Hunter R3 grant funds projects that teach people the skills, knowledge, and attitudes to be responsible and safe hunters; provide instruction in safe firearms operations, ethics, gambling laws, outdoor survival, and first aid; and focus on recruiting recreational hunters and shooters.
A total grant fund of $75,000 is available. Individual grant awards are normally limited to $25,000. Cost-sharing funds may be awarded to individuals or community organizations, Wisconsin tribes, universities, and schools.
Past grant recipient projects include:
- Archery Range Improvements for Urban After-School Clubs
- Support for exhibitions related to hunting focused on new audiences
- Programs to learn to hunt
- The purchase of outdoor wheelchairs for public use.
The deadline to submit grant applications is September 15, 2023 at 11:59 pm CST.
