With a phenomenal four-day total of 96 pounds, 14 ounces at Santee Cooper Lakes, Palmer weighed in a commanding Sunday total of 25 pounds, 15 ounces to slam the field door and take home his first blue trophy.
“I’ve been waiting a long time to hear you say that,” Palmer told bass emcee Dave Mercer after his ‘Elite Series Champion’ announcement. “I came so close to doing it last year, to finally get it done. I wanted to break 100 pounds, but I’ll take 96-14.” Palmer’s eyes were set even higher than his incredible tournament total, even though his winning margin was sixth all-time in Bassmaster history.
“This is special,” said Palmer, who finished fourth in the 2022 Elite at Santee Cooper. “You work your whole life and you start to doubt yourself and ask yourself ‘Am I good enough to do it?’ I was good once and once is better than nothing. You always look for that perfect day, and today was my perfect day.”
