New low profile spool offers compact power and reliability
Tranx is synonymous with power and reliability. Shimano designed the entire Tranx family for smooth, reliable performance, exceeding the expectations of all freshwater and saltwater anglers. Shimano expands the Tranx family of low profile reels with the new Tranx 150 to meet the specific needs of Texas and Gulf Coast wading anglers with a versatile offering perfect for lighter inshore presentations. The smallest offering in the Tranx line, the Tranx 150 offers the compact power and maneuverability of its larger counterparts while offering anglers increased durability and protection from the corrosive effects of saltwater.
A true workhorse, the Tranx 150 employs a HAGANE body for extreme stiffness and impact resistance. The added durability of the all-metal HAGANE Body improves the overall smoothness of the windings by housing the internal components within a body that resists flexing during the toughest battles. Now every turn of the handle translates directly into cranking power.
Shimano’s CoreProtect technology ensures the Tranx 150 is ready for many seasons of saltwater adventures. The CoreProtect concept is simple: provide water resistance without creating a rotation-heavy feel. CoreProtect, a protective coating applied to critical areas, causes water to bead off the reel, reducing water and salt intrusion for increased durability when chasing inshore fish. With an inherent desire to be a glutton for punishment, the Tranx 150 boasts improved stopping power by utilizing Shimano’s trusty Cross Carbon Drag. With up to 13 pounds of stopping power, Tranx 150’s Cross Carbon Drag offers a wide range of settings for exceptionally smooth performance throughout the drag range. Anglers fighting inshore trophy fish will now have the upper hand in every battle.
The Tranx 150 combines two Shimano technologies to enable anglers to reach fish effectively over long distances and in difficult conditions. Super Free Spool technology eliminates friction on the spool shaft during casting by supporting the sprocket with a ball bearing to keep the sprocket and spool shaft in perfect alignment. Less friction means the reel spins more freely, resulting in longer, effortless casts, especially with light lures and live baits. The Tranx 150 features Shimano’s newest innovation in braking system technology, SVS Infinity, which provides consistent, easy-to-manage reel control and drag force. With drag weights that use internal friction against the raceway during casting, SVS Infinity controls reel speed for precision casting, especially when using lighter lures and baits preferred by wading anglers. An external adjustment knob allows for quick and precise brake force adjustments when changing presentations or managing variable winds
Anglers can harness the power of the low profile Tranx 150 in one of three gear ratios (6.3:1, 7.2:1 or 8.2:1) on right hand recovery reels weighing 6 .7 oz. and hold 150 yards of 20 lbs. test PowerPro; a left-hand retrieve option is available on the 7.2:1 gear ratio model. Tranx 150 is now available from authorized Shimano dealers with a MSRP of $209.99.
