NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) \u2014 Saturday is Free Hunting Day, and you are allowed to hunt without a license in Tennessee. It also marks the opening day of the squirrel season.<\/p>\n

The TWRA does this in hopes of increasing people’s interest in hunting. It gives them a chance before they start the process of getting a license to try it out.<\/p>\n

It is important to note that there are still other requirements to participate, including the need to complete a hunter education course, required for those born after January 1, 1969.<\/p>\n

As for squirrel season, one of the state’s oldest traditions, hunters can take up to ten a day through March 15 of next year.<\/p>\n

The TWRA is encouraging regular hunters on this day to introduce the sport to their friends and family. The agency also said it’s a great opportunity for people who haven’t tried hunting in a long time to get back into it.<\/p>\n
