SHERIDAN — The seventh annual youth-only pheasant hunt in the Bud Love Wildlife Habitat Management Area near Buffalo will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19. On this day, pheasant hunting is restricted to juveniles only on all land contained within the Bud Love Wildlife Habitat Management Area. Adult hunters may access Bud Love WHMA on that day to hunt other species or assist junior hunters, but may not hunt pheasants.
Junior hunters are defined as being under the age of 17. There is no limit to the number of young hunters allowed at Bud Love WHMA on that day and they can come and go throughout the day.
All junior hunters must be properly licensed and have a $15.50 Pheasant Special Administration Stamp, available for purchase at all license sales agents and on the WGFD website. Resident hunters under the age of 14 do not need a bird license, but must be accompanied by an adult. However, the adult cannot take pheasants on that day.
In addition, participating junior hunters must have successfully completed a hunter safety course or be enrolled in the Hunter Mentor program. Hunters can view the requirements and enroll in the Hunter Mentor Program by clicking the “education” link at wgfd.wyo.gov
All pheasant hunters at Bud Love WHMA must wear a fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink piece of clothing while hunting, such as a hat, vest, jacket, or other visible garment.
Pheasant hunting is also available for youth and families at the Fort Phil Kearny Hunter Management Area’s annual Family Pheasant Hunt. The hunt will take place this year on November 26 and 27. Pre-registration for the event is not required, but please read and familiarize yourself with the rules before arriving on the fort grounds. Pheasants may be taken by juveniles and by adults accompanying juveniles during this hunt. A special pheasant management stamp is required for all hunters.
Nonresident youth may participate in these hunts, but regulations differ for resident and nonresident hunters. See the Upland Game Bird and Small Game Regulation brochure or contact the Sheridan Regional Office for details.
