Benelli USA Invitational raises $132K for Freedom Hunters military outreach program

In 2015, Benelli USA partnered with Freedom Hunters, a 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to helping veterans and active military members, to kick off the first-ever Benelli USA Invitational clay-court sporting event. Since then, the Benelli Invitational has played a key supporting role in Freedom Hunters’ efforts to provide select active duty and combat veterans, their families and Gold Star family members with therapeutic outdoor adventures and, often life-changing.

On October 7, 2022, Benelli USA and Freedom Hunters held the 7th Annual Benelli USA Invitational at Prince George’s Trap and Skeet Center in Glenn Dale, Maryland. The Invitational attracted 152 shooters and 57 corporate sponsors who, combined with on-site volunteers and an online auction supported by the outdoor enthusiast public, raised $132,000 for this year’s event.

Proceeds from the Benelli Invitational will go towards Freedom Hunters’ ongoing mission to positively impact the lives of current and former military service members and their families, and especially at-risk veterans facing serious challenges in life.

“The Benelli Invitational is one of our most anticipated corporate events,” said Tom DeBolt, General Manager of Benelli USA. “Freedom Hunters presents a mission that touches closely and is one that our organization fully supports. We want to thank all of the volunteers who helped make this year’s event a resounding success and thank the public and many corporate sponsors involved who are equally dedicated to improving the lives of those who have given so much for all of us.”

Shooting participants were divided into teams for the event, with Team Nielsen taking first place with a score of 268. The best overall shooter of the day was Andrew Napier with a score of 74. After the day’s competition, Tom DeBolt of Benelli USA (General Manager), Tim Joseph (VP of Brand and Product Marketing), Laurie Gardiner (Digital Marketing Manager), and Gretchen Helm (Financial Controller) presented Freedom Hunters Founder and CEO Anthony Pace with a check for $132,000.

“The generous giving of time and financial support from everyone involved in this year’s Benelli Invitational is humbling,” said Freedom Hunters’ Anthony Pace. “As members of the organization, we work every day on our goal to support veterans and their families, and achieve maximum efficiency with every dollar we receive. The ability to work shoulder to shoulder with corporate sponsors at events like this and to see the enthusiasm and dedication that everyone, including online auction participants, put into manifesting our work behind the scenes is extremely uplifting. The veterans and families who directly benefit from these jobs are especially appreciative because sometimes it literally saves lives.”

“As we approach almost 15 years of Shoot Like A Girl, we are thrilled with what we have seen in 2022 and the third quarter of this year,” said Karen Butler, founder and president of Shoot Like A Girl. “Turnout has been incredible as we meet the need for public safety and community outreach while providing a fun experience. We are honored to be a part of this incredible impact and continue to work to empower women, families and communities across the country as we look ahead to the fourth quarter and 2023.”

Hosting a pheasant hunt for Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s Club Signature Experience and an industry hunt with Beretta, women across the country experienced the powerful impact of connecting with nature from the Shoot Like A Girl team.

Motorists urged to take extreme precautions to avoid collisions with deer

Deer are most active this time of fall. Crops are being harvested and deer breeding season is in full swing. The Nebraska Park and Game Commission has tips to help drivers avoid deer-vehicle accidents and reduce the risk of injury or vehicle damage.

  • During the breeding season, males become more active looking for females. Males are bolder, less cautious, and more susceptible to vehicle collisions. Deer movement peaks each day around dawn and dusk.
  • Anticipate the possibility of a deer in the road and plan how to avoid a collision. Be prepared to stop suddenly, but braking too hard or swerving can cause you to lose control and roll over.
  • Wear your seat belt.
  • When driving near shelter belts, forests, or streams, especially in the late afternoon or early morning, slow down and watch for deer. Keep your headlights on if there is no oncoming traffic.
  • When you see a deer, assume there will be others in the same area.
  • Deer often appear disoriented or confused by headlights. Some react by freezing in the light, some launching themselves into the path of the vehicle, and others shooting out. Honk your horn and turn on your headlights to scare away the deer. If there is other traffic on the road, activate your hazard flashers and hit the brakes to alert other drivers of potential danger.
  • Many places where deer-vehicle collisions occur are marked with deer crossing signs.
  • If a deer is struck, the driver may take possession of the deer, then must contact Game and Parks within 24 hours and has 48 hours to receive a salvage tag from a conservator officer or designee. See the list of conservancy officers at OutdoorNebraska.gov/ConservationOfficers.

Schloesser and López take gold in archery at the World Cup in Mexico

The biggest event of the international outdoor archery season this year is the Archery World Cup, and once again Easton X10 shooters dominated the field to win gold medals at the prestigious annual event. Competing in Tlaxcala, Mexico, 16 of the world’s best compound archers battled it out for the premier title in target archery, with Dutch archer Mike “Mister Perfect” and Colombian Sara Lopez once again rising to the top of the podium with arrow shafts X10.

Schloesser lived up to his “Mister Perfect” moniker, shooting a perfect 150 points to defeat Team Easton shooter Nicholas Girard of France, who delivered 149 in the gold medal final with his X10 axes. Jean Pizzaro from Puerto Rico took bronze with X10 Pro Tours.

On the women’s podium, Sara Lopez cemented her position as the best goalkeeper in World Cup history, taking her seventh X10 Champion trophy after defeating a goalkeeper from Great Britain in the final. The Colombian Alejandra Usquiano took the bronze, also with the X10.

In addition to the compound champions, all 16 recurve shooters who competed in the World Cup final used X10s, the same arrow that has been used to win every Olympic Games since its introduction.

Union Police and Fire Help Youth at Chicago Fish USA with First Responder Event

Spring Hill, Tennessee—Forty youth and their families from West Chicago’s Austin neighborhood braved the winter weather on Saturday, October 15, to attend Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA) 2North Dakota Annual Chicago-area Fish with a First Responder event in Columbus Park.

Members of Chicago Firefighters Local 2, Chicago Police Sergeants Association, on the 15ththe The District’s CAPS Unit, Community Safety Team and the Chicago K-9 Unit volunteered to teach neighborhood kids how to fish and provided a lunch of grilled hot dogs and hamburgers.

Although the 40-degree temperature may have kept some people away from the free community event, organizers Doug Aller and Sherry Long of New Concept Benefit Group were pleased that it brought together so many neighborhood residents and members of the police and fire departments.

Forty youth and their families from the Austin neighborhood of West Chicago attended the second annual Chicago Area Fish Event with a US lifeguard in Columbus Park.

“Our company does financial planning for first responders. We understand that in most cases people in the community only see them during stressful times, maybe the worst day of their lives,” Aller said. “This fishing event is an opportunity to bring community members and first responders together in a fun and positive environment where they can get to know each other on a personal level.”

“Community events like this help break down barriers,” added Jim Calvino, president of the Chicago Police Sergeants Association. “It shows the neighborhood that the police aren’t just there in tough situations, and it allows kids and officers to talk to each other like normal people, like human beings.”

Each boy received a free rod and reel combo courtesy of the USA, and with the help of volunteers, they tried their hand at fishing in the park’s pond, which Fire Fighters Local 2 had stocked with several hundred bluegills prior to the event.

Timmy Fitzgerald volunteered at the event with his father Tim Fitzgerald, a firefighter on Chicago’s South Side, and helped other youth set up rods and reels, casts, hooks and untangle lines.

“For a lot of the kids, it was their first exposure to fishing,” said Pat Quane, director of public relations for Local 2. “All of the kids had a great time and hopefully the experience will make a difference in their lives and awaken an interest in the outdoors, so maybe they’ll grab their new fishing pole instead of watching TV or just hanging out.”

Firefighter Tim Fitzgerald, assigned to the Engine 50 Firehouse on the south side of Chicago, also took the opportunity to involve his 13-year-old son, Timothy, as a volunteer.

“Timmy started fishing at a very young age and has a lot of experience for a teenager,” Fitzgerald said. “He helped set up rods and reels and taught the kids how to cast, bait hooks and untangle lines. I think seeing that there are so many kids his age out there who have never had the opportunity to go fishing before was a real eye-opener for him.”

Fish with a First Responder is just one of a series of community events and conservation projects put on through the U.S. conservation program Work Boots on the Ground. Through the program, union members volunteer their time and skills to build key outdoor infrastructure, such as fishing piers, boat ramps, hiking trails, and shooting facilities, in public outdoor recreation areas, but also to introduce people to the outdoors through outreach events like this.

“U.S. mission is to unite the union community through conservation to preserve North America’s outdoor heritage,” said U.S. Conservation Coordinator Cody Campbell, “and that includes helping people learn how to do outdoor activities, so they can enjoy them for the rest of their lives. it lives.”

Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA): USA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to unions whose members hunt, fish, shoot, and volunteer their skills for conservation. Alien Gear Holsters® partners with ASP to support free police training

Alien Gear Holsters® Rapid Force™ holsters were introduced to the ASP training team at the recent ASP International Trainer Certification (ATC) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Alien Gear Holsters®, designers and manufacturers of American-made holsters and accessories for firearms, and the Rapid Force™ line of level 2 and level 3 duty holsters, announce that Armament Systems’ law enforcement trainers and Procedures (ASP) are now equipped with Alien Gear Holster’s latest duty holsters. The collaboration began when Alien Gear executives introduced the company’s Rapid Force holsters to the training team at the recent ASP International Trainers Certification (ATC) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

ASP trainers travel the world teaching the company’s coveted integrated baton, handcuff and light tactics instructor courses. What makes the ASP program unique is that it is provided to qualified officials and agencies completely free of charge. And this, according to Alien Gear, is what caught the attention of the case company.

“We are passionate about officer safety and never letting money get in the way of getting the best training possible,” said Sandi Little, director of operations for Alien Gear. She went on to say that Alien Gear has a similar free training program for police departments looking to adopt their Level 3 retention holsters.

ASP Vice President of Sales Daryell Harmon said ASP has strict safety rules, including a requirement that service weapons be replaced with the company’s well-known inert Red Guns in the training environment. “Our Trainers appreciate great gear,” Harmon said, “so we reached out to Alien Gear to see if they would like to work with us to put the most advanced and secure holsters on our duty belts.”

Alien Gear was immediately receptive to the idea, because they shared ASP’s training and safety philosophy and because they appreciated the value of having ASP trainers in front of thousands upon thousands of officers each year. “The exposure is great, even though it’s not really about sales,” says Little. “These are two friendly, like-minded companies that share a mission to care for our law enforcement officers.”

“We are receiving more and more requests from agencies across the country to purchase our Rapid Force service holsters. Working with law enforcement trainers, like our partnership with ASP, allows police officers in training to see and feel the superior performance and security our holsters provide,” explained Joe Lienemann, Director of Sales for Law Enforcement. Alien Gear Holsters Law. “As a law enforcement officer myself, the simplicity and security of the Rapid Force line of duty holsters provide peace of mind knowing your duty holster will perform as needed.”

The Rapid Force Duty Holster is designed specifically for military and law enforcement professionals. The revolutionary retention mechanism was designed to provide the highest level of security while maintaining incredibly fast and smooth removal. Alien Gear Holsters’ patented Gross Motor Response (GMR™) retention control system allows the user to consistently draw with perfect grip, even under stress. The Rapid Force Duty Holster has been extensively tested in extreme environments and extreme conditions, making it known as a “tank” of a holster, capable of withstanding anything you throw at it. The Nebraska pheasant, quail and partridge seasons are fast approaching. The junior season is October 22 and 23 and the general season begins on October 29.

The Nebraska Park and Game Commission reminds upland hunters to keep the following safety tips in mind when heading out to the fields this fall:

  • Treat every firearm as if it is loaded and never assume it is not.
  • Always point the muzzle of your shotgun in a safe direction, away from people, structures, vehicles, roads, and any direction that could cause injury or damage if fired.
  • Be sure to identify your goal, what’s beyond, and what’s in front of you. Don’t swing your muzzle into the game outside of your safe zone of fire.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger guard and the safety on until you are ready to shoot.
  • Plan your hunt and hunt your plan; Come up with a game plan with your group before your hunt. Remind everyone to keep their shots in a safe fire zone. Know where your hunting party and others are at all times during your hunt.
